Forming an opportunity belief
1. After reviewing my last assignments, I think there is an opportunity in the cleaning department.
2. Everyone hates dirty bathrooms. Especially when you have to use them consistently. When the bathrooms are not clean in dorms, it decreases the likelihood of anyone using them, which in turn is a cause for unhealthy students. The bathrooms are cleaned pretty regularly, but if there was a machine (like the rumba for floors) that could easily clean parts of the bathroom promptly, this would help not only the people who have to clean it but also everyone using it.
3. The prototypical customer would be another student who uses the bathrooms in the dorms.
4. Sabrina (two dorms down from mine)
What is the nature of the need?
Definitely not being able to shower when I want to because it's disgusting. It's a sanitary need, but I guess in a sense it is an inconvenience.
How long have you had this need?
I first recognized that the showers were getting gross last semester, but lately, it been really bad. It's frustrating when I want to shower and there isn't somewhere that is clean that I can
When did you first become aware of this need?
Last semester when the showers looked like they hadn't been cleaned in over a week.
How are you currently addressing this need, are you satisfied with this solution?
I think it would be cool but probably expensive to install everywhere. I usually just try to go shower right after the people are done cleaning the bathrooms, so that way they will be fine when I use them.
Emily (friends roommate)
What is the nature of the need?
The convenience of not having a clean shower. I honestly don't care too much because it's never that bad, but I see where you're coming from.
How long have you had this need?
I started noticing how gross the showers were in Fall, but I honestly don't pay much attention because I just go to my friend's apartment if I need to.
When did you first become aware of this need?
I guess sometime last semester
How are you currently addressing this need?
By going to my friend's apartment. Her place is always clean, and its a bit of a hassle, but I don't mind.
Jalyn (my roommate)
What is the nature of the need?
Having a basic need, all I want is a clean shower, and it's not that it's even disgustingly dirty it is just other people being absent minded about things we shouldn't have to handle
How long have you had this need?
Since like the second week of school.
When did you first become aware of this need?
When I got in the shower and there was hair everywhere and I feel like there is mold on the walls and sometimes girls will get sick in the stalls and it's disgusting.
How are you currently addressing this need?
I just go shower early and hope that it's been cleaned, and if it hasn't, I leave.
Reflection:
I learned that some people definitely agree that the showers are not clean sometimes and that it is frustrating to use. I feel like they made valid points and although the bathroom cleaner idea is expensive, there could be something similar that could help with this issue in the future. I think really if everyone just rinsed off the shower with water after they use it, this wouldn't be so much of a problem but I am hoping people will learn and it will get better.
Summarize:
I definitely think there is still a need for this out there. People don't want to shower in dirty environments. Maybe it's not a machine that fixes it but having more regulatory cleanings or even rules about what everyone has to do to keep it sanitary. I think its an unmet need and it will be met as time goes on.
Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteYour opportunity belief really stuck out to me. I'm a junior now, but back when I was a freshman living in the dorms, I definitely experienced this problem. The showers get so dirty and disgusting that it makes you not even feel clean after taking a shower. I think that your concept for cleaning is a great one! The vacuum robots already exist, so I'm sure that a cleaning robot can be created as well. It would provide a faster and more convenient way of cleaning even for in the homes too.
