Growing your social capital
1. The three people I chose were:
- Professor at UF
- One of the organizations trying to solve problem currently
- Realtor friend in California
2. The professor at UF teaches about social issues and politics, and he is the domain expert because he has researched a lot about the housing crisis in California.
The Organization has been working on models similar to mine but hasn't carried any of them out and primarily helps homeless in civil actions, so they know the area as well as the customer.
The realtor obviously knows the land and how to make a sell to those who may need to move things around.
3. I found each through a previous contact online and contacted through email and phone.
4. There is no return expectation. I find a lot of times when I am interviewing people for the Florida Alligator, if you are a student who is trying to make a difference or working on something that benefits others, most the time people are more than happy to help and don't expect anything in return.
5. These people are going to enhance my knowledge and hopefully ground me into a more solid idea of how to create a better solution or critique mine.
I think this was a good experience and showed that experts are willing to help and that you just need to be willing to reach out and start taking action to solve these problems.

ReplyDeleteAnna,
ReplyDeleteGood job finding social resources during this crisis that are close to you! I agree that there is no return expectation from most people, as they are happy to impart their wisdom and experience on a captive audience. Hopefully these resources do ground your idea and show you things you maybe hadn't realized.
