13 A reading reflection 1

Coco Chanel isn't just known for her fashion, she also inspires girls all over the world to be their true self and uplift those around the, From her words of wisdom to her non-stop attitude, Coco Chanel is someone we all can admire. What surprised me the most was probably the wide variety of things she did in fashion. She was unique because she based the fashion around her life and what had happened in it as well as how she felt about things. She also made pants for women, which at the time was huge. What I most admired about Coco Chanel was her attitude. She stood up for what she believed in and she did not back down. Her fashion was different at the time being, and some may not have approved. However, she didn't stop, and made a name to herself in a positive way. She didn't coerce to societal expectations either, which was very admirable as well. I didn't like how Chanel didn't get out more to speak about the hardships girls and women experienced at the time. She was a role model, but with the power she held, she could have started something so much larger for women in power. Coco definitely encountered failure. Like I mentioned, at the time, it was not common for women to be entrepreneurs. She wanted people to know that just because she was a women would not deter her in her aspirations. Coco definitely faced hardships from many others including people who told her she couldn't do it, and refusal to help her. However, once her success cam clear, she was able to stand up against these people. Coco Chanel had strong political threshold for women as well, and once she started becoming more well known, she let people know she was not going to be pushed around. I think the reading was confusing because it said she was a bit modern and talked about her work as not so much being inspiring but just about fashion. It was confusing in a bit but overall not too bad. If I could ask Coco Chanel two questions, I would ask her where she first had failure and how she dealt with it, and also how she made a success out of herself when many women were unable too. Her hard work idea is almost the idea that if you don't stop working and never give up, it'll come, and I think this resonates with me as well.
