Solving the Problem

1. I chose the housing crisis in California as my problem: Basically, all of the lower- and middle- class citizens of California are becoming homeless or moving out because the rent their is so crazy expensive. People can't afford rent or food or really basic human needs, and as more of the rich come in to live, it only makes the problem worse.I used to lie in California, and when we sold our house, my dad said it sold for almost twice as much as we bought it for. This was great for us, but for the teachers, police officers, city workers and more who need somewhere to live, they can't afford to buy that kind of house which causes for a market and societal problem. 2. Product/service: There is no product besides houses that could fix this problem. However, if California took parts of land where there was housing already built, and decreased the rent in these specific areas in each county, it would allow those with lower incomes to be able to live there. This would take work, and would need more houses too, but at this point the only way that lower and middle class citizens can be in California is if they have affordable living, which at the time they don't. If California start building more homeless rehabilitation centers and lower income housing residencies, this problem can get better. But the first step is to make some areas of California lower income housing, and only let people with lower incomes live there.

  1. Hello Anna,

I found your post to be very informative as I had no real knowledge of the housing crisis, especially in California. I have heard that many San Francisco natives are being forced out of their homes due to property taxes and other fees be raised year after year. It is a serious problem across the United States, and the problem is only growing. I think pairing some kind of work/habilitation center with affordable housing will be very beneficial for all of society. Great post!

  2. Anna,

If you solve this problem you deserve a Nobel prize. California is a beautiful place I'm sure (I've never been there), but the way decisions are made seems to be completely nutty. How can the everyday guy or gal afford a house that cost $500,000-750,000?! And this amount gets you an average looking house I a lot of places in California. Here in Central Florida, if you spend this much, you can get some really nice digs.

I see why people are leaving the Golden State in droves.

  3. Hey Anna,

I think that your opportunity and solving the problem is very important. I agree that California needs to step up and care about the lower income families. They shouldn't want their people homeless and on the streets. Certain designated spots for lower income is a great idea but can be tricky. If these are designated spots for them, would those areas allude to more crime? Places for people other than the rich is extremely important for the state and should be taken seriously.
