Idea Napkin 1

1. I am a first year journalism major on a pre-law track at UF. I love to write, as I work for the Florida Alligator as well as Her Campus magazine as news writers. I want to make a difference in the world, whether this is through journalism or law, I hope to do something for the good of others. I aspire to be an advocacy lawyer, who fights for right of women in not only the U.S. but international as well. I love learning about people as well as pushing to make an impact where I go. This goes along with my business idea, of having affordable living and rehabilitation for those in California who are on the verge of being homeless or who already are. I know this idea will play into what I want to do with my career, possibly switching my interests over to fighting for those who are homeless. 2. The product won't flatter everyone, and honestly it's targeted at only a certain group of people. However, California knows it has to do something about its homeless population before it starts to affect the entireity of its society. I think those in California will be interested i the options and will be willing to take immediately, and as this progresses other people in the US who are starting to have this problem as well will hopefully do the same. 3. The group of people I am offering this to is homeless people in California, and also those who are on the verge of becoming homeless. This is a rising number, and although there are people in California who will not be interested, this won't deter the main idea because the target audience is so specific. 4. Caring about providing a shelter to those in need is not something you can force people to do, but I think most people do care. It isn't about making people care, because this situation has already gotten so bad that people are worried there isn't a good solution for it. In general, once the homeless population starts affecting the economy and more, people who don't care now will definitely care then. 5. What sets me apart from other people is having passion for a project and not giving up when an idea is destroyed. Most people who have brought ideas forward have been told no because it is too much funding or that it wasn't going to work. However, time is going to be of the essence, because California does need to do something soon. I think what sets me apart is that I won't give up when I am told no, and I actually care about the situation as a whole and not just a certain group of individuals. I think these five elements work pretty well together, however, they aren't a picture perfect idea of who I am or what I am pitching. This takes time and experience and branding, and overall having an image when you are presenting an idea as well as yourself. I do agree that by knowing the customer, they can put more trust into you and the product, but it takes more than your words to display an actual change.

  1. Hi Anna,
I admire your passion for this project, as it is what is most valuable in the individual that undertakes this venture. I agree that California knows its problem, and is searching for an affective solution to implement. this is key, because need awareness is a large part of the customer decision making process. I believe that with time and experience, you could launch this into something substantial. Awesome job!!

  2. Hey Anna,
I love how passionate you are for helping people! I think that your idea and problem is a huge unmet need and opportunity for California. Making California areas more available and bringing it to the attention of millions of people should really help this. In some way, you need to make it a campaign of some sort so it is not only in the hands of the State of California decision makers. As you have described, they don't seem to care too much about the homelessness so you need to find a different approach to it somehow.
